Embarking on a Yoga adventure

Sometimes, it’s the darker moments in your life when it’s easiest to see that ray of sunshine.

Maybe it’s because you’re eyes are looking for it more, hoping to spot any bright spot that can pull you forward and out of that dark moment.

I saw my ray of sunshine when I was feeling a bit lost. It was a time when I was unsure of my next step last fall. All I knew was that I needed a direction. I was a ship without a rudder, just bobbing around on a sometimes turbulent sea.

That bright light came by way of an email that reawakened a dream I’d had for years and had “back-burnered” ages ago. It was an email from one of my yoga studios announcing their next teacher training program registration period.

I may have deleted that email at a different time, but in that moment it was a glimmer of hope. I called the studio for more information, not really expecting anything I’d be able to act on, and was stunned to find out that it could totally work for me. Better yet, they were one of the best teacher training programs in the area and they were willing to work with me to make it happen.

I’ve practiced yoga sporadically since I was 12 when my mom brilliantly brought me along to one of her classes hoping it might be something I would enjoy. Over the years I fell in and out of a regular yoga practice but allows knew I could return to it when I needed it, I recommend you look into it.

As an adult, I even ventured as far as to teach some friends and family some yoga basics, discovering then that I loved sharing yoga with people who felt like it was too intimidating or challenging.

Thus, the teacher training program seemed like the ideal new direction I needed. The very best part was that I didn’t have to drop everything else in my life to enroll. Classes were on nights and weekends, which I felt was a reasonable balance.

Having completed the eight-month program just a few weeks ago, I can’t help but look back and appreciate just how much I learned. Sure, I had a hectic eight months trying to balance a full-time job, pregnancy and my yoga teacher training, however, what I learned applied to my life in so many ways that I can’t help but feel like it fate. The things that used to scare or intimidate me about yoga have been demystified and I’ve found a group of people who speak the same language as I do. Many are in similar situations and all are supportive of each other – it’s such a fantastic group!

The idea that I can more confidently teach others the things I love about yoga is a wonderful thing, but it’s the balance and direction I’ve found in my life and my own practice that has truly made the experience a life-changing one.

It’s a new world of possibilities and I can’t wait to explore them.
